One of the things I love about being part of Dawn Olchefske's demonstrator team is that she often issues monthly challenges. These challenges consist of making a variety of cards or other items incorporating a technique or sketch. It's a great way to have a variety of ideas to inspire creativity and also gives me material for my blog posts. It's a win win!
Today's card is the result of one of those challenges, which is to use ribbon. I love ribbon and use it on a good portion of my cards anyhow, so I wanted to come up with an idea that really used ribbon as the focal point. Page 110 in the 2024-2025 annual catalog features a card that has metallic papers woven in it, and it is so striking! I've already purchased the metallic papers so I can make a card like this, but today I decided to use the ribbon instead, and I love the way it turned out!
The 2024-2026 In Colors are so cheerful, and since I already have three of the new ribbon colors, it made it an easy choice for the color palette. The little die cut flowers are from the dies that are part of the Hearts & Hugs bundle, and the sentiment comes from the Irresistible Blooms stamp set.
I will admit, weaving the ribbons through the cardstock took a little bit of time, but it was worth it! I made sure to use the Thick Basic White cardstock as it is more substantial as the base for weaving. I left all the ends free until I had everything woven through, then adhered the ends with the Tear & Tape adhesive. This is a super strong adhesive and my go to when working with ribbons, 3D projects, or anytime I want to make sure everything stays exactly where I want it!
Having the right tools definitely makes any project easier, and having the Paper Trimmer is a must for this project. With the measurements on the blade guide as well as the base, it makes it easy to cut even lines top to bottom and left to right.
This card would work equally well using the metallic cardstock as pictured in the catalog, regular cardstock in various colors, even glimmer papers would be fun, and I bet it would be gorgeous with DSP prints also. The possibilities are limitless! I hope you are inspired to give this design a try. If you love it in the ribbon, these ribbons are wonderfully light and easy to work with. They come in all five of the new In Colors and with the wonderful variety of colors, they will work for your creative projects throughout the entire year.

Here's How It's Made:
On Basic White Thick cardstock panel, cut slits lengthwise 1/4" apart, starting 1/2" from one edge, with slits beginning 1/2" from top, and stopping 1/2" from bottom. Cut a total of 9 slits.
Apply a length of Tear & Tape adhesive on back at each side of strips, leaving protective strip on. Weave Peach Pie, Petunia Pop and Summer Splash ribbons through slits, beginning and ending at different areas, leaving some spaces in weaving for flowers. Here's what it looks like on the front side when all 9 pieces of ribbon have been woven through.
Carefully remove protective strip from left edge, press ends of ribbons down, trim off any excess that is showing at left edge.
Here's what the backside looks like:
Trim off excess of ribbon, carefully remove protective strip from remaining adhesive strip. Press ribbon ends down firmly onto strip.
Apply strips of Tear & Tape adhesive around all four sides on back of panel, and over previous adhesive strips to firmly secure ribbon ends. Adhere to Summer Splash folded card front.
Ink sentiment with Petunia Pop, stamp onto Basic White cardstock strip, adhere with Stampin' Dimensionals, over a Petunia Pop ribbon row, with right edge aligned with right edge of panel. (Part of the ribbon should still show at left edge of sentiment label)
Die cut small and large flowers from Peach Pie, Petunia Pop and Summer Splash cardstock. Adhere each flower in open spaces of same color ribbon row, with mini Stampin' Dimensional.
Embellish flower centers with Peach Pie, Petunia Pop and Summer Splash Shimmer Gems.
