Trusty Tools Awesome Birthday Toolbox Card

 Greetings!

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!

Today is the first day of the new Jan-April mini catalog and Sale-a-bration!  Woohoo!  The holidays may be over but the gifts keep on coming.  Sale-a-bration is the time of year when we all earn FREE product for every $50 we purchase (before tax & shipping) and this year is one of the best I've seen!  The product selection is awesome and so many of the items coordinate with product in the new mini catalog as well as the current annual catalog.

With all the wonderful product coordination I just mentioned, I had to kick of the new season with a brand new Trusty Tools die bundle from the Jan - April mini catalog, and the coordinating Sale-a-bration FREE (with a $50 purchase) Trusty Toolbox Designer Series Paper (DSP).  These papers are fabulous and the dies cut out so many of the tools making it a breeze to fill your toolbox up in no time!  The colors are bright and happy, and coincidentally (maybe, maybe not) are similar to the colors of some of the more well known tool brands.

I had so much fun making this card.  It's a fantastic variety of tools to play with, including many more that I didn't use on this card.  The dies are awesome for cutting out so many of the printed images on these papers as well as the coordinating stamps that the dies work with too.  The dies also provide the option for cutting out some very detailed tools that use two or three dies to build the tool.  Very fun!

Are you wondering why this set excites me so much?  Well, it reminds me of my dad.  He was a carpenter so from a very early age I learned how to use all the tools shown here as well as many more.  I have many fond memories of time spent with my dad and if he were still here on this earth I know he would have loved this set!  It's so nice to see a set that really pays homage to the craftspeople in our life.

By the way I was so excited to start playing with this set that I just started cutting everything out!  Had I given myself a minute to think, I would have grabbed my adhesive sheets to apply to some of the cardstock before cutting out the small pieces like the handle to the toolbox and the little nuts and bolts.

Here's How It's Made:

Die cut toolbox from Poppy Parade cardstock. Die cut toolbox handle from Basic Black cardstock.

Cut two short 1-1/4" x 3/8" Basic Black cardstock pieces to adhere to the backside of the toolbox piece, so the black will show through the little holes on the sides of the tool box.  Cut 1/8" strips of Black Stampin' Dimensionals border to length for bottom and side of tool box, adhere to backside of toolbox edges, leaving top free of adhesive.

Cut out around the assortment of tools on the scattered tools DSP print so they will fit in the Stampin' Cut & Emboss die cut machine.
Most of the tools are found clustered together on the one print, and the paintbrush is from the other print.  Here's how I cut out the cluster.

Die cut out the pencil, hammer with the rounded end, wrench*, adjustable wrench and tape measure.  Fussy cut out a screwdriver handle if you choose to add that as well.

*Note the wrench is missing part of the one end.  This doesn't matter as that end will be inside the toolbox.  Same with the screwdriver handle.  The sheets of DSP have parts of the some of the tools cut off, but you can still make them work inside your toolbox.

Ink "You're the most Awesome" with Tuxedo Black ink, stamp in lower right corner of Gray Granite DSP panel.

Adhere Gray Granite DSP print to Poppy Parade cardstock panel, adhere to upper part of Gray Granite card base.  Adhere Basic Black cardstock below Poppy Parade cardstock panel.  Adhere toolbox above message at an angle, making sure it's far enough down to leave room for the handle and all the tools.  Adhere handle with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Adhere Crushed Curry ruler DSP print to Basic Black cardstock, centering. Adhere pencil at lower left edge of Gray Granite DSP panel, with writing tip angling under sentiment.

Apply three small Black Stampin' Dimensionals along bottom of tape measure and tip of extended ruler piece, apply a little adhesive to top part of tape measure, adhere along lower right area of tool box bottom.

Insert tools into toolbox, adhering with a little Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the lower part of each tool.  This allows you to position them and slide them into the toolbox easily and the top parts remain loose.  Make sure the tools do not extend above the top or sides of the card so you can easily insert it into your envelope.

Die cut nuts and bolts from Basic Gray cardstock, adhere to card front near pencil and sentiment with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Here's what the inside looks like:

Ink "Happy Birthday" from the Phrases for All stamp set.  Stamp on upper portion of Basic White cardstock panel, centering.

Adhere Basic White cardstock panel to inside of Gray Granite card base.

Adhere Poppy Parade screwdriver DSP print to Crushed Curry cardstock, adhere near lower edge of Basic White panel.
