Wildflower Path watercolor with pastels

Greetings!

Today's card features a technique I haven't done in a few years, and the Wildflower Path stamp set is the perfect set to do it with.  This stamp set features two-step stamps which are images that require two or more stamps to complete the entire image.  As you may have guessed by the name, the images are wildflowers, so there are stems and then a variety of flowers that can be added onto the stems to create your wildflower.

For this card I used the stem stamps, however, instead of using the stamps to add the flowers, I used a Water Painter and pastels (colored chalks) to add the leaves and flowers.

The message that is included in this stamp set is fabulous!  It's a little early yet for graduation cards but I feel this is a perfect message to include for a graduate.  It obviously will work well for other occasions too.  My favorite cards to send are notes of encouragement and this is a fantastic message of encouragement.

The Soft Pastels Assortment was introduced with the release of the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog.  It is a wonderful medium to play with to give your cards a different look.  There are a multitude of ways to color using the pastels.  This card shows using them with Water Painters to create a watercolor look.

Here's How It's Made:
Ink wildflower stem with flat top with Tuxedo Black Memento™ ink and stamp right of center on Watercolor Paper.  Ink grass stamp with same Memento ink and stamp grass along entire bottom of card.  Note: I cut a small sticky note strip to cover leaves and stem on wildflower stem so grass didn't cover the leaves.
Ink other wildflower stem with Memento ink and stamp to the right of the first wildflower.  Note: Place sticky note over grass before stamping so stem is above grass only.

Using a knife edge, scrape some of the Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade and Gorgeous Grape Pastels onto a clear block, in separate piles of powder.  Fill barrel of large brush tip Water Painter with water, squeeze so brush tip is nice and wet, dip into Granny Apple Green pastel powder.  Deposit water/pastel drops onto stamped leaves until you achieve the color saturation you desire.  This will wash out the detail of the leaves.  Avoid tipping or tilting paper, as it takes time for the water to absorb into the paper and dry.

Clean brush by rubbing onto scrap paper until clear.  Dip Water Painter tip into Poppy Parade pastel powder and add color to stem tips for flowers.  Clean brush tip and add Gorgeous Grape pastel powder to one or two flowers to give a bit of color variation.  Set aside and allow to thoroughly dry so there is no evidence of standing water.

Only use Watercolor Paper for this technique.  Standard cardstock will severely warp and ripple.

Ink the "Do not go where..." message and stamp to left of wildflowers.

Before cutting the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper polka dot print, place your Watercolor Paper on the print and line up so you have the dots showing evenly around all four sides, and cut paper accordingly.  Adhere dot print panel to Poppy Parade card front.  Adhere completed Watercolor Paper panel.

Embellish with small and large Brushed Brass Butterflies.

Here's what the inside looks like:

Cut a 5 x 3-3/4 panel of Basic White cardstock.  Ink "Follow your dreams"  stamp from the Through it Together stamp set with Poppy Parade (or Black Memento ink) and stamp onto cardstock panel.  Adhere to inside of card.

Add a 5-3/8 x 3/4 strip of the Flowering Fields polka dot print and adhere near bottom of Basic White panel.
