Color & Contour Watercolor Flower Card

 Greetings!

Today's card is all about adding texture in a multitude of ways.  Whether it's from the stamping, the vellum doily, the textured cardstock or the ribbon and twine, these are all quick ways to give your card more interest and depth.

The Color & Contour stamp set has wonderful sketched images that are perfect for water coloring.  It's been awhile since I've used the watercolor paper and I forgot how much I love the look and feel of it.  It has a wonderfully soft touch to it and a thickness that gives it a little bit of cushion.  I wanted a soft outline color for the image so crumb cake and clear embossing powder were the perfect combo.  Heat embossing is my favorite way to outline when I know I want to color in the image. The embossing keeps the lines nice and crisp and since I used clear embossing powder it gives it just a hint of a sheen.

Isn't it lovely.  It's so soft and all the different textures give it a vintage feel.  The square vellum doily, the little bit of fringed ribbon, the splattering on the card base, and the color palette all speak to a soft, quiet time.  This would work perfectly for a variety of occasions...get well, Mother's Day, Easter, etc.  Leaving the front of the card blank gives it the versatility to use for whatever occasion you decide.

The Stripes 3D Embossing Folder was introduced with the release of the Jan-June mini catalog, and it has quickly become a favorite.  It's also sized to fit in the Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, which is such a handy tool!  This is just one of the many embossing folders specifically sized to use in the Mini, giving you the opportunity to expand your creative options with a minimal investment.  Even better, the Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine is on sale for 20% off for the month of March, making it a wonderful time to add this fabulous tool to your craft room.

Here's How It's Made:

To create splatter background on Crumb Cake card base, ink splatter stamp with VersaMark and randomly stamp around edges of card front.  Clean stamp, then ink with Crumb Cake and stamp a few more splatters - this gives varied shades to the background.

Ink flower stamp first with VersaMark then Crumb Cake, stamp onto Watercolor Paper, sprinkle Clear Emboss Powder over stamped image, shake off excess, and heat set with Heat Tool.

Fill large brush tip water painter with water.  In small dish, dispense 2-3 drops of Blushing Bride ink refill.  Squeeze Water Painter to get brush tip nice and wet, swirl around in ink and color in flowers. Re-ink Water Painter and rub Blushing Bride ink onto ribbon piece to dye it.  Set aside to dry.  Rub excess ink off brush onto a piece of scrap paper.  Repeat process with Pear Pizzazz ink to color in leaves.

Emboss Blushing Bride cardstock with Stripes 3D Embossing Folder. On back side, adhere Square Vellum Doily so approximately 3/4" is extending beyond right edge.  Adhere to card front.

Wrap Crumb Cake Baker's Twine around Watercolor Paper  3 times near bottom of flower stem and tie into a knot.  Untwist hanging pieces to separate strands.  Adhere to Blushing Bride embossed layer.

Adhere dyed ribbon near upper left edge of Blushing Bride/Watercolor Paper.  Fringe edge by pulling cut end and it will easily unravel.  Cut off pulled string when you've achieved desired fringe length.
