Greetings!
Today I'm taking a break from sharing a card with you to share the fun little Square Pillow Boxes that were introduced this year with the Bee Mine Suite Collection in the Jan-April mini catalog. I had purchased the entire Bee Mine Suite Collection and hadn't done anything with the pillow boxes yet, so it was time to play.
They may be called a Square Pillow Box, but they are a rather uniquely shaped box actually. If you're familiar with pillow boxes, you know the two ends are rounded, hence the "pillow" box. As these are square, all four sides are rounded, giving it the unique shape. Adding a belly band and a simple punched image along with a little "Happy Birthday" makes decorating the box quick and easy.
How can you not smile when you look at this! Who'da thunk Armadillos were cute! The creatures featured in the prints from the Zoo Crew Designer Series Papers (DSP) are hilariously cute and are shown doing all different kinds of activities, from llamas knitting, to lions roasting marshmallows, to alligators riding bicycles, and so much more. Stinkin' adorable! The top of the box opens for you to slip your treat or gift into, and it is ready for the recipient.
These Square Pillow Boxes are food safe, so you can slip fresh home-baked cookies or bars, little candies and sweet treats, as well as small items like a lip balm, hand cream, etc., making them a very versatile gift box.
I want to give a special shout out to my friend Nicole, as she gave me one of these boxes a couple weeks ago decorated similarly with a belly band, cute stamped image and message. With all of Stampin' Up!'s gorgeous Designer Series Paper prints and coordinating stamp sets, decorating these little boxes for party favors and more come together in a snap. It's time to pull out your favorite papers, a stamp set with the right message for your event and have fun!
Gather Your Supplies:
- Zany Zoo stamp set
- Modern Oval Punch
- Inked & Tiled Punch Pack
- Square Pillow Box
- Basic White cardstock
- Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper
- Armadillo image - 2-1/2 x 1-3/4
- 10 x 1-1/4 black dashes on white print
- Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad
- Classic Matte Dots

Here's How It's Made:
First, just to show you what the Square Pillow Box looks like. It comes scored and the adhesive is already applied, so you simply have to fold along the score lines, remove the protective paper from the adhesive area, press the sides together to adhere, and you are ready to decorate! NOTE: If you are stamping directly onto pillow box, make sure to do so before assembling.
Wrap DSP print around assembled pillow box sides, apply adhesive, press firmly to adhere. NOTE: I assemble with the cut ends on top so they are covered by the punched image.
Select image from the Zoo Crew prints, hand cut around image, making sure to leave enough excess for you to punch image. Punch. The dog with confetti and the armadillo will both fit inside the Modern Label Punch from this DSP sheet. There are other creatures on other sheets from this DSP pack that will fit also.
Ink only the "Happy Birthday" with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, stamp onto Basic White cardstock. Align "Happy Birthday" in one length of "X" punch, punch. Cut off extensions on top and bottom, so you are left with small banner style piece.
Adhere "Happy Birthday" banner to back of Modern Oval punched piece so right edge is at left edge of "Birthday". Adhere assembled piece to belly band on front/top of square pillow box.
Embellish with Black Classic Matte Dots.
I made one with the little dog with confetti also. I used the black with stars print for this one, and it's only 1" wide instead of 1-1/4"
