Cutest Crew Birds Best Day Torn Window Card

Greetings!

Today's card features a trio of adorable birds from the Cutest Crew stamp set along with a great sentiment, both peaking through from torn window openings.  The lovely print is from the Mixed-Up Patterns Designer Series Papers (DSP) giving this card a sweet, summery color palette.

Techniques include torn window technique and coloring with Stampin' Blends.

This is a fun Wow! technique that is actually quite simple to do.  The most challenging part of this card was getting the ribbon tied in little bows. 😄

Beverly's Tip of the Day

Are you nervous to tear paper or cardstock?  Unsure of how to tear it?  Here are a couple things to know.

  1. Start small, meaning, grab the part you want to tear away, and have your other hand holding the edge you want to keep.  Do a little at a time to keep the tear going straight with no great variation in the tear line.  You can also hold a Bone Folder along the edge to help give you a straighter line. When you feel more comfortable, if you want a more jagged edge, then tear a larger amount.  Practice on a scrap piece to see what works for you.
  2. The part of the cardstock you pull up and away will leave a solid edge, and the piece you are pulling up from will show the layers under the top.  With a solid cardstock, you will see the fibrous layers underneath, and with a DSP print, you will see the white layer in the middle between the two printed sides.  Keep this in mind so you know what type of edge you want for your project.  Again, practice on a scrap piece to see the effect you want.

Here's How It's Made:

With floral side up, tear DSP 3/4" from bottom for about 2-1/2"from right edge, do a second parallel tear 1-3/4" above the first tear.
From left edge, 3/4" from top, tear DSP 2-1/2", do a second parallel tear 3/4" down from first tear.

Tear off about 1-1/4" of the two torn pieces, wrap remaining 1-1/4 around a small tube, rolling it back towards untorn area. (I used a plastic chopstick to roll them).

Secure bottoms of rolled pieces with Mini Glue Dots.  Wrap ribbon around rolled edge, to edge of DSP panel, tie into a small bow, trim edges.  Adhere to Basic White cardstock panel.

For stamping, position the stamps at the edges of the block so they won't be inhibited by the rolled pieces.  Position trio of birds at left edge of block, sentiment at right edge of block.  Ink both stamps with Basic Black Hybrid Ink, stamp sentiment in upper left and birds in lower right opening.

Allow ink to dry for a couple minutes, then color bird bodies with Lt. Balmy Blue Stampin' Blend and wings with Dk. Balmy Blue.  Color beaks with Dk. Daffodil Delight, and grasses with Dk. Granny Apple Green.

Adhere completed panel to Daffodil Delight folded card front.
