Need a Last Minute Gift Bag? Look No Further

 Greetings!

I have seen many small gift bags made from Designer Series Papers, but I thought, there's got to be a way to make a bigger size.  It didn't take me long to figure out how to make it, and the beauty is the bag only takes one 12 x 12 sheet for the main portion, with another half sheet for the band around the top, giving the bag extra strength and height.  This bag's dimensions are 8" wide by 6" high by 2" deep, so large enough and strong enough to hold a variety of gifts.

This bag is made with the Elegant Pine Snowflakes Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the Gold Striped ribbon for the handles.

If you're like me there's always a sheet or two of DSP left and this is a great way to turn it into something useful and beautiful.

Beverly's Tip of the Day

When creating a 3D project such as this gift bag, having the correct adhesive is very important.  I chose the Stampin' Seal+ as it has a stronger adhesion than Stampin' Seal and is recommended for 3D projects.

When working with DSP I prefer using the Simply Scored scoring tool, as the tracks are evenly spaced, and the stylus has rounded edges which I feel it gives a softer and wider scored line so there is less chance of any tearing along the scored line. The Simply Scored is 12-1/2" wide and long to easily accommodate a full 12 x 12 sheet of paper or cardstock.

Here's How It's Made:

Score DSP at 5" and 7".

Turn sheet 90 degrees, score at 2" and 10".

Cut slits at 5" and 7" scored lines to perpendicular score lines, trim slits at slight angles.

Fold at all score lines.  Apply adhesive to side pieces and top edge of side pieces, then fold carefully, with bottom flap in between the two, press firmly together.

Cut coordinating DSP sheet at 3" lengthwise, so you have two 12 x 3 pieces.  Score each piece lengthwise at 1-1/2 ", then turn 90 degrees, score at 2" and 10".

Trim 1/2" off each short edge

Fold at all score lines, then open back up.  Apply adhesive along both long edges of each piece.  Lay one edge flat with adhesive side up, align top edge of bag over adhesive with a 1/2" overlap, in between score lines.  Press to adhere, fold band piece around corner of bag, press to adhere.

Fold band over at score line towards inside of bag edge, press firmly, fold in edges.

Adhere second piece of top band the same way as first piece, overlapping edges at side.

Mark hole placement 1/2" down and 2" in from each end, punch hole, thread ribbon through holes, tie into knot on inside.
