In the Moment on Fresh as a Daisy DSP Watercolor Pencil Card

Greetings!

It has been awhile since I have pulled out the Watercolor Pencils to use on a card.  The In the Moment stamp set features wonderful line item images that are perfect for coloring in.  With the introduction of all the new colors this year also came a new updated assortment of Watercolor Pencils.  If you haven't tried Stampin' Up!'s Watercolor Pencils, I encourage you to give them a try.  The lead is so smooth and is formulated to work with the Water Painters as well as the Blender Pens.  If you are new to the world of stamping, having the Watercolor Pencils is a great way to have a nice assortment of colors to work with at a very affordable price.

The In the Moment stamp set has messages that are so important to remember for ourselves, and for those in our life that always do for everyone else and need a reminder to take time for themselves.  The images that accompany the messages give options so you can choose whichever form of relaxation works best for the person you're thinking of.

As you can see I opted to selectively color in just a bit of the image and leave the rest as outlines.  That's the beauty of line images.  You have all the choice with how you color them in and what colors to use.  For the dog I first colored it in, blended the color with Blender Pens, then colored short strokes over it with the Early Espresso Watercolor Pencil to give the dog a more distinctive furry look.

The Fresh as a Daisy Designer Series Papers (DSP) have beautiful prints on one side, with these wonderful watercolor brushed looks on the flip sides, so it gives a nice background look that continues the watercolor theme.

Here's How It's Made:
Adhere Wild Wheat DSP panel to Very Vanilla Thick folded card front.

Ink image with Pecan Pie, stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock.

To color image as I have, these are the colors used:
  • Blue - pants
  • Old Olive - book
  • Early Espresso - hair and dog
  • Pecan Pie - dog and drink mug

To color, lightly color in each area with the Watercolor Pencil, then color over it with the Blender Pen to blend in the pencil strokes.  Try to avoid the ink outlines, as the Blender Pen will grab that ink.   You can always add more color by going back over it again with the Watercolor Pencil to darken and shade.  Be careful of overusing the Blender Pen, as if it gets the cardstock too wet, it will start to ripple and shred.  Adhere to Old Olive cardstock, adhere to card front, leaving room at the top for the banner.

For this message, I eliminated inking the first part of the message.  To ink "Be good to yourself", hold clear block with stamp rubber side up, using a corner of the Wild Wheat ink pad, press onto the words you want inked.  When you can see you've gotten ink on them, take your Blender Pen and rub over any words you don't want inked to pull the ink off the stamp.  Gently rub over those words with your fingers to remove any residual ink, then stamp the message onto the Very Vanilla cardstock.  You may need to do this a couple times to get it inked and stamped just how you want it.

To create banner edge, cut a 1/4" slit in the middle of the short end using Paper Snips, then cut from top and bottom edge, angling in to top of slit at center.  Adhere to Old Olive strip, then cut the same banner edge, leaving a scant 1/16" extended.  Wrap Wild Wheat Jute Trim around right end of banner, tie into a knot.  Adhere to upper right edge of card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Here's what the inside looks like:

Ink "sometimes..." with Wild Wheat and stamp in upper portion of inside.

Cut Old Olive cardstock 1-1/4 x 3-5/8.  Adhere near bottom.  Cut Wild Wheat DSP 4 x 3/4, center and adhere over Old Olive.
