I enjoyed a wonderful crafting retreat weekend these past three days, and one of the sets I brought with me to play with was the the Hippest Hippos stamp set and Hippo Dies, both of which are FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-bration. They are so stinkin' cute, and so fun with all the fantastic dies to give them a variety of activities they can be doing.
I have seen a few of the hippos converted into cows with the addition of some black spots so I decided to turn my hippo into a cow. After deciding to have my adorable cow cruising along in her little boat, I needed a message that worked. The Sending Smiles bundle provided just the right message!
How cute is this card! It's so fun when you can make adaptations to a set so you can create even more variety to your cards, and having a hippo that can be a cow too definitely falls in that category.
Gather Your Supplies:

- Thick Basic White cardstock
- card base 4-1/4 x 11 scored & folded at 5-1/2 OR 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored & folded at 4-1/4
- Basic White cardstock
- 5-1/4 x 4 panel
- 3 x 2 for cow
- scrap for sentiment
- Balmy Blue cardstock
- 4 x 2 for water
- 5 x 3 for word
- Silver Foil Sheets

Here's How It's Made:
Ink Hippo with Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp onto Basic White cardstock. Draw random shapes on hippo's body with Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker writing tip, and color in the shapes with the brush tip of the same marker. Color in nose with Dark Petal Pink Stampin' Blend. Die cut hippo.
Die cut Basic White panel with second to largest Stitched Rectangle die.
Place waves die on edge of Balmy Blue 4 x 2 cardstock piece and die cut. Place detailed "Sending" die on Balmy Blue 5 x 3 cardstock piece and die cut. Trim sides of water so it fits inside stitching line of Basic White rectangle.
Die Cut boat and propeller from Silver Foil.
When die cutting items from Foil Sheets, I recommend either using a new cutting plate on top so previous die cuts don't transfer to the foil, or only run a piece of foil slightly larger than die through, so you don't end up with impressions all over the remaining piece.
I recommend "dry fitting" the cow, boat and water, so you can see exactly where to place them before applying adhesive. Adhere cow a bit below center of Basic White panel, leaving space for the word Sending above it. Adhere boat with Stampin' Dimensionals so cow's arms are above top edge of boat. Adhere propeller using a mini Stampin' Dimensional. Adhere water so bottom edge is just above stitching line and waves are on bottom third of boat.
Apply small dots of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to backside of "Sending" and place at a slight angle along top of Stitched Rectangle. Ink "smiles across the miles" with Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp onto Basic White cardstock. Die cut using long label die from Sending Smiles dies and adhere just below waves on Balmy Blue water.
Embellish with Fine Sparkle Adhesive Backed Gems - note that I placed a Pale Papaya small gem in the middle of the propeller blades.
