A Wrapped Bouquet with a twist

Greetings!

I have an amazing Stampin' Up! upline leader in Dawn Olchefske.  As a leader she does a fabulous job of giving her team monthly challenges which we can opt to participate in.  They usually consist of creating at least 9 different cards or projects.  The criteria for one of the designs this month is to pair something unexpected.  I'm sure you'll agree that we all tend to have favorites we pair our creations with, whether it be a certain type of embellishment, a textured embossing folder, a color or DSP, etc. It took a bit of time for me to decide what would be an unexpected pairing that would still produce a pleasing result.  I really love how this turned out!

an unexpected pairing

Camouflage and flowers - a gorgeous duo!

This Camouflage background stamp is beautiful in the way it is designed!  It looks like I used at least three different ink colors doesn't it?  It's all one big stamp!  The way the rubber is textured it holds more or less ink to provide this varied look.  Ingenious!  This makes it very easy to create an interesting background with no fuss or difficulty of lining up multiple stamped images to create this look.

The Wrapped Bouquet bundle is a new introduction in the Jan-June 2021 mini catalog.  The little newspaper wrap is a stamp that coordinates to a die which is scored to fold into the finished piece as you see on this card.  How fun is that!  I first tried the newspaper stamp on Crumb Cake cardstock which is the color the Camouflage background is stamped onto.  It looked okay but I wanted something visually lighter so I thought, aha, vellum!  The newsprint is heat embossed on the vellum with the Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder.  It gives it the lighter appearance, almost like a tissue, don't you think?

The Petal Pink is such a beautiful color to provide a nice balance against the darker tones. The Layering Ovals dies offer a wonderful selection of sizes to help frame your project. Cutting a nice large oval to put behind the bouquet really helps spotlight it and give it a degree of separation from the background.  For the finishing touch a lovely little bow out of Linen Thread and yellow dots from the Ice Cream Corner Sprinkles to draw attention to the unpainted flowers.

Assembly Tips & Techniques:
  • The Camouflage background is inked with Old Olive, stamped onto Crumb Cake cardstock.
  • **To get the two large leaves to be Old Olive; ink your stamp with Crumb Cake then take a Blender Pen and remove the ink from the two leaves, wiping off the tip onto your grid paper as needed to get rid of the ink during removal. After you've removed the Crumb Cake ink, dip your Blender Pen tip into the Old Olive stamp pad to grab the ink.  Color in the leaves with Old Olive,  then breathe on the whole stamp to remoisten the ink before stamping onto my cardstock.  You may have to do this a couple times to get the look you want - it takes a little practice :).
  • The flowers are colored in by using both the Light and Dark Stampin' Blend duos. I used Petal Pink on the small flowers, using the writing tip and dotting each petal.  The larger flowers are colored in Daffodil Delight and I again used the writing tip, drawing the lines using the stamped lines as guides.
  • Before inking your cardstock for heat embossing, I recommend rubbing a piece of wax paper over the cardstock.  This eliminates any sticky spots that may allow embossing powder to stick on areas not stamped.  Heat emboss the image onto your vellum cardstock before die cutting.  This particular die has multiple score lines for folding up the piece to look like a wrap for the bouquet.
  • The ice cream corner sprinkles are adhered by using a small dot of multi-purpose liquid glue.  The bouquet is tucked into the wrap and adhered to the oval with Stampin' dimensionals.  The linen thread bow is adhered with a mini glue dot.
