Nature's Prints Shadow Technique Best Wishes Card

 Greetings!

This is the time of year in my blogging world where it's cutting it pretty close to share Christmas cards,  and yet it's not time to start sharing all the goodies in the new spring catalogs.  Therefore, it makes it a great time for some favorites from the annual catalog.

You may find this surprising ๐Ÿ˜‰to know that I think about what my next card can be a lot!  While letting my thoughts roam one day while on a walk, I thought, you know, I need to do a shadow technique card!  It's a lovely technique, fun to do and I haven't shared one in a long time - if ever.

The shadow technique is stamping an image in either a white or a dark ink color, moving the stamp ever so slightly, then stamping the image again in the opposite shade, hence, the shadow.  It's a little tricky to do so I took pictures of how to line up the stamp, then shift it slightly for the second stamped layer, as I used a rubber stamp, not a Photopolymer one.  My first attempt was not quite so good, but the second one turned out great!

After I stamped the image, then I had to decide how to build my card.  I happened to have a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock I had embossed awhile ago with the Timber 3D embossing folder, and it hadn't made it on to a card yet.  It seemed very appropriate for a nice textured background, but I didn't want the stamped panel to simply be a rectangle, so the Scalloped Contours dies to the rescue!  I really like the way it all came together and the shadow technique brings so much depth to the stamped image.

If you haven't tried this technique yet, I encourage you to give it a try.  Remember, it's just ink and paper ๐Ÿ˜Š  You may take a time or two to get it how you like, but as with anything, we rarely get it right on the first try.  Have fun and smile through the process๐Ÿ˜

Here's How It's Made:

Insert Crumb Cake cardstock into Timber 3D embossing folder with length of grain running parallel to 4" length of cardstock. Emboss.  Adhere near top edge of Starry Sky folded card front.

Place largest plant stamp onto center of Clear Block D (Item #118485).  Ink stamp with Craft White ink, stamp on to Orchid Oasis cardstock, lining up top and left edge of block to top and left edge of cardstock. Thoroughly clean ink off of stamp. Allow stamped image to dry, or dry with low setting of heat tool or hair dryer.

Ink the same stamp with Starry Sky ink.  Looking straight over the clear block, move down and to the left approximately 1/16", stamp over top of White stamped image.

Position second largest scalloped rectangle die over stamped cardstock panel so top and bottom edges are lined up with edge of scallops.  Die cut.

Adhere to Crumb Cake cardstock embossed layer on card, centering.

To make multi-looped bow, wrap Orchid Oasis Bakers Twine around two fingers four times to create loops, leaving 2-3" ends.

Wrap Crumb Cake Baker's Twine around center of loop and tie into a knot.

Adhere to bottom of plant at top of stem with a mini glue dots.

Ink "Best Wishes..." stamp with Starry Sky, stamp onto Basic White cardstock.

Embellish with small dark Night of Navy Ombre Matte Decorative Dots.
