A Handsome Host Easel Card

 Hello,

With every new catalog there are always wonderful new products exclusively for hosts/hostesses.  These particular items are only available when an entire party total or an individual order totals $150 or more.

The card I'm sharing with you is using the Prince & Princess host stamp set.  This frog was just calling to be the prince to put a smile on someone's face.

A Handsome Prince for sure!

For this card, I used the masking technique to have the frog appear to be sitting on the lily pad.  The puddle of water is also masked so it would extend around the frog.

Here are the up-close photos to show the steps for masking:

First, stamp your frog onto your card stock.

To stamp the lily pad under the frog:
Stamp the frog onto a large sticky note, cut out around bottom edge of frog and up the sides a bit around his back leg and front feet.
Place sticky note on top of stamped frog, lining up so bottom edge of stamped frog is at edge of sticky note.
Ink lily pad stamp and stamp at bottom edge of frog.

On a separate sticky note, stamp the lily pad and cut it out.

To stamp the water, place both the frog and lily pad sticky notes over your stamped images on your cardstock.
Ink the water puddle and stamp to the right of the frog/lily pad.
Re-ink the water puddle stamp and stamp to the left of the frog/lily pad.

All parts of the frog, lily pad and water are colored in the with Watercolor Pencils and the color then blended with the Blender Pens.

The crown is heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

The inside of the crown is colored in with Early Espresso and colored over with Wink of Stella to give it shimmer.  Gold Metallic Pearls top off the three "jewels" on the top of this crown.

The Hey, Handsome greeting and the You're one of a kind message are also heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

The Stitched with Whimsy dies give a whimsical frame to the picture as well as providing an extra detail to the Garden Green strip under the message.

This card is a little more labor intensive with all the coloring, heat embossing and layering, however, the result is so fun!  What man, young or old, wouldn't love to get this fun card to commemorate his special occasion!

Why did I offset the message instead of having it centered?  It's much less bulky for mailing if the crown is to the left of the raised message.  This keeps the thickness more equal as you simply fold the card so the front is folded in facing the bottom.

Assembly Tips & Techniques:
  • When stamping your image onto the sticky note, make sure the part of the image you'll be cutting along is on the part with the adhesive on the back.  This makes it much easier to firmly adhere to your image and give you a good clean edge for your stamping.
  • For the Garden Green strip under the message, center it carefully under one of the long edges of the Stitched with Whimsy die to get the lines of curvy stitching.  This adds a nice touch.
  • When adhering the layer to the card base, make sure to only apply adhesive to the part of the base that is above the fold line.
  • The Take Your Pick Tool is the perfect tool for picking up and placing small embellishments such as the rhinestones.  It's much easier to accurately attach them when you can see them without your fingers getting in the way.
  • The Watercolor Pencil colors used for coloring in the frog are: Granny Apple Green with Old Olive for the spots.  Lily pad is colored in with Garden Green, and the water with Balmy Blue.  The cattails are colored in with Early Espresso.
