Beverly's Tip of the Day

For a card such as this, sometimes the hardest part is figuring out which color cardstock to use for the card base.  Looking at the colors listed on the pack of Designer Series Paper can be very helpful.  If you are undecided, position the layer pieces onto one color of cardstock, take a photo, then position the layers on the other color(s) you are thinking of and take a photo.  This way you can easily compare between the photos to see which color you like best.

Pine Tree Trimmings Tree Shaker Dome Card

 Greetings!

Today's card features the Pine Tree Shaker Domes used with the Pine Tree Trimmings stamp & die bundle.  The background is a print from the Elegant Pine Snowflakes Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Techniques include coloring with sponge daubers, torn paper technique, and die cutting.

==============================================================================

Beverly's Tip of the Day

Keep your ink pads fresh and color true.  When using sponge daubers, always ink stamp with lightest color first, then tap sponge dauber onto darker ink pad, daub onto area of stamp you wish to change color of, repeat with darker colors, if doing more than one.  ALWAYS clean your stamp thoroughly between inking, so darker colors don't transfer onto your lighter colored stamp pads.

======================================================================

Gather Your Supplies:

  • Pine Tree Trimmings bundle (Save 10% when you purchase stamp set & die with bundle item#)
  • Tree Shaker Domes
  • Basic White Thick cardstock
    • card base 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored & folded at 4-1/4
  • Basic White cardstock
    • 4 x 2-1/2 torn lengthwise for layers below tree
    • 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 square for tree
  • Fresh Freesia cardstock
    • 4 x 5/8
  • Melon Mambo cardstock
    • scrap for die cut star
  • Elegant Pine Snowflakes Designer Series Paper (DSP)
    • 4 x 4 frost on Pretty Peacock print
  • Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin' Pad
  • Fresh Freesia Classic Stampin' Pad
  • Melon Mambo Classic Stampin' Pad
  • Blackberry Bliss Classic Stampin' Pad
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Gold Shaker Stars
  • Simply Shammy
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine
=============================================================
Here's How It's Made:

Die cut tree from DSP.  Center 3-1/2 Basic White cardstock behind DSP (Do not adhere DSP to cardstock), ink tree stamp with Pretty Peacock, stamp inside tree outline, set DSP layer aside

Ink ornament stamp with Fresh Freesia, ink sponge dauber with Melon Mambo, daub onto a couple ornaments, ink another sponge dauber with Blackberry Bliss, daub onto a couple ornaments, stamp onto tree.  Clean stamp.  Ink ornaments, daub, stamp, clean stamp, repeat once more.  Ornaments will extend beyond tree near top, but this will be covered by the DSP layer.

Carefully place Gold Shaker Stars onto tree, avoiding edges of tree.

Peel backing off Shaker Dome, line up over tree, press down.  Thoroughly press around all edges of Shaker Dome.

Peel backing off top side of shaker dome, line up tree cutout of DSP layer, press down.  Thoroughly press around all edges of tree.

Apply adhesive to back side of tree/DSP piece, adhere to top of folded card front, leaving 1/8" border around top and sides.  Adhere Basic White cardstock piece with torn edges below tree, layer with 2nd torn edge piece, so bottom cut edge is 1/8" from bottom edge of card front.

Ink "O Christmas Tree" with Blackberry Bliss, stamp onto right half of Fresh Freesia cardstock, adhere near bottom of card front.

Adhere Melon Mambo die cut star at top of tree.
