Fancy Phrases color blocking

Welcome!

Our blog hop challenge this time around is color blocking.  It took me a few tries to get the right shape and color combination that I was happy with, but once I found it, I am super thrilled with the outcome.  I hope you enjoy it!

Beautiful, Elegant and Fun!

The beautiful floral stamp from the Fancy Phrases stamp set was a perfect stamp for this technique.  It's a bold enough image to stand alone and large enough to work well for the color blocking.  I simply cut pieces of cardstock in sizes and shapes that were pleasing and spaced them with just a little gap between each piece.  Trying to space them evenly and not bump them when stamping was probably the most challenging part! 😅.  Carefully picking up each piece to emboss it was the next challenge.

I wanted all the color blocks to be in the same color family and it didn't look right to simply stamp them with a darker ink color. Embossing the floral image with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder gives it the WOW factor paired with the Silver Foil Sheets for a touch of elegance.  Twirling some Blushing Bride twine behind the birthday wishes adds a sense of whimsy and the Metallic Pearls are the perfect finish for a something extra in the flowers.

Assembly Tips & Techniques:
  • Stamping on foil sheets can be tricky as they are a little slippery and the ink takes a while to dry.  The benefit of the ink needing time to dry is that you can easily emboss over any color with the clear embossing powder. Embossing the greeting ensures that the ink won't smear on the silver foil.
  • Gently rubbing the piece of cardstock you intend to emboss on with wax paper hinders the embossing powder from sticking to the cardstock other than where the stamped image is inked.
  • To make sure all my pieces fit on my card properly I dry fit them all first.  I placed the largest piece first, which in this case is the lower left, and then positioned all the others.  Yes, the lower right piece intentionally extends to the edge of the card base. 😁
  • When positioning twine or ribbons to peak out behind cardstock, I recommend running a strip or two of adhesive on the back of the cardstock and tacking your ribbon or twine on it.  It's easy to move around until you get it where you want it before you attach it to your card front.
  • The Birthday wishes sentiment is attached with Stampin' Dimensionals so the twine easily fits behind it.
I hope you've enjoyed your stop here on the blog hop.  It's so fun to see all the creativity from everyone.  May you be inspired to get creative by all you see today!

Sending Sunshine and Joy

Joy to you!

May this day find you taking a moment to breathe and enjoy your life!

There are many occasions and reasons to send someone a card.  Sometimes it's simply giving them a card that reminds them to relax, breathe and enjoy the moment.  The Sending Sunshine stamp set  is the perfect set for sending this message.  This set is full of images that you put together to create the scene you want.  I used one of the samples from pg. 111 in the Stampin'Up!© Annual Catalog as my inspiration and modified it for what you see here.

Take time to relax and enjoy the moment!

Whose day are you ready to brighten?

I am reminded to breathe and relax simply by looking at this card! Sending this card to someone you care about is a great way to help them remember it as well. Would you agree that receiving a card just out of the blue always makes your day better.  How wonderful it feels to know someone thought of us and wanted to let us know with a handmade card. Brighten someone's day by sending them a thoughtful card "just because".  You will both feel great!

  • Adhesives and more:

Assembly Tips & Techniques:
  • *To create the lake I used the larger stamp stamped off.  Stamped off means to stamp it onto a piece of scratch paper first and then stamp onto your card without re-inking.  This creates a softer color.  I then inked the smaller lake stamp and stamped directly over the first layer.  Stamping off is an easy way to create a look of using multiple colors when you've really just used one by inking the stamp and stamping two or more times without re-inking.  I used this same technique for the plants - I inked the stamp with Mossy Meadow and stamped onto scratch paper first before stamping onto the card so my plants would be a lighter green than the land masses.
  • For aligning my images of the water and sun I used the Stamparatus® !  The Stamparatus® is the perfect tool for any stamps that require multiple images to be layered and is also my go to tool for stamping the sentiments on the insides of my cards so I have the placement exactly where I want it.  If it doesn't stamp as nicely as I want the first time, I simply re-ink and stamp again and know that my sentiment will be nice and solid and crisp!.
  • The background of sand and sky were created simply by inking a Blending Brush and gently rubbing it onto the cardstock.  I used the Shimmery White cardstock so that my entire card has a subtle shimmer to it.
  • For the colors of my sun I carefully lined up my ink pad with the round sun in Crushed Curry, then lined up the Daffodil Delight ink pad for the reflection part.
  • To create the hills on either side of the water, I simply used the jagged edged stamps and repeatedly stamped the image in Mossy Meadow to create the look I wanted and to fill in any blanks.  I love the way it turned out!  To create the clouds I inked each word separately, stamped it on the cardstock, and then free cut the shapes into clouds.  The little birds are hand drawn using the writing tip of the Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends.

An Adorable Snail Mail Hello

 Greetings!

Who knew snails could be cute! When thinking of adorable creatures, I have to say they are not one of the first things to pop into my head.  That was prior to my eyes landing on the Snailed It Bundle.  Not only are the snails adorable but there are also these cute little mushroom stamps and dies as well as the best mini envelope ever!  Messages of encouragement and happiness round out the set.

When I looked at the largest snail stamp in this set with the gifts on her shell, here was my thought: what papers can I use to give her a little more interest than simply coloring her in?  After looking at and rejecting quite a few different options I settled on the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper (DSP).  This DSP has three selections of large blotches (that's the highly technical term) in gorgeous colors and they are large enough for the entire snail and her gifts to fit in.  Here is the color combo I chose to create this adorable card!

Whose day can you brighten with a little hello?

I ask you, can you look at this card and not break out into a smile!?  Those little eyelashes on that snail are so cute and how perfect is the color transition in the paper to really highlight her beautiful eyes!  The darling little envelope giving you a peak of polka dotted lining is part of the same sheet of DSP.  Slip in a little hello note and you have a completed card to send someone a smile!

All of Stampin' Up!'s © Designer Series Papers are double sided so you have a wonderful array of options in every pack of paper.  Having dies to cut out the various stamps along with extras like little envelopes make it so easy to give your cards that added pop!  The new Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder has quickly become a new fave!  It provides such a beautiful texture and compliments the papers very well.

 Materials and dimensions:

  • Stamps:
    • Snailed It Bundle* ( Snailed It stamp set & Snail dies)
  • Paper
    • Old Olive - 4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
    • White - 2-1/2 x 4 for circle and "hello" note
    • Pool Party - 4-1/4 x 4
    • Bermuda Bay - 4-1/4 x 1-1/4
    • Ice Cream Corner DSP - 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 for snail, 4 x 3 for envelope
  • Ink:
    • Bermuda Bay
    • Basic Gray
  • Embellishments:
    • Old Olive Ribbon from Ornate Garden Ribbon combo pack - 18"
  • Tools & Accessories:
    • 2-1/4 Circle Punch
    • Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder
    • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine
    • Paper Trimmer
  • Adhesives and more:
    • mini glue dots, dimensionals,  Stampin' Seal ®
*A bundle is a stamp set & die or stamp set & punch
sold together as one item #
The GREAT thing about a bundle is that the items are sold together at a
10% discount!

Quick Tips:
  • Use extra adhesive when adhering embossed layers.  Because the cardstock is no longer a flat surface, you want to make sure you have glue or adhesive behind the areas that will connect to the layer above and underneath.  I recommend Stampin' Seal+ or the Tear & Tape adhesive for the 3D embossed textures.
  • Mini glue dots are my adhesive of choice when attaching small items. They are perfect for adhering the various flaps of the little envelope together.  I also like to tuck a mini glue dot behind the knot on my bows to help secure them in place.
  • Designer Series Papers (DSP) are a great way for you to choose a color combination to work with.  They also make it very easy to just stamp onto the printed paper, cut or punch out the image and you don't even have to color anything in!
  • The Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine is the tool every serious paper crafter and card maker needs.  It gives you so many creative options, and the dies and embossing folders are so easy to work with.  It's incredibly durable and user friendly for anyone from 8 - 100.  If you want a way to have children enjoy the art of paper crafting, let them cut something with this machine and they will be your ideal assistant!
  • Circles are an easy solution for popping up your image.  You don't have to concern yourself with perfect alignment as it's a circle.   Using a circle punch is a quick and easy way to "frame" the image and provide a neutral background to separate it from the rest of the card.
